The spread, and the margin notes that replaced the sidebars.
The piece
Folio is a quarterly about craft: furniture, ceramics, bookbinding. The old design was a stack of sidebars and the photographs were squeezed between them.
The redesign has one rule: the photograph decides the page. A new grid with wide margins, two typefaces, notes in the margins where the sidebars were. The first issue sold out its print run; the fourth increased it.
